Privacy Policy

Last updated: 21 September 2026

Nischaya Matrimony Pvt. Ltd. ("Nischaya") is the data fiduciary for personal data processed through the Platform. This policy is our notice under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 ("DPDP Act") — it describes, in plain language, what personal data we collect, the purpose of each use, and the rights and controls you have. By registering and giving consent, you agree to the processing described here.

1. What we collect and why

We collect only the data needed to operate a matchmaking service:

  • Account data — name, date of birth, gender, mobile number, email — to create and secure your account.
  • Profile data — photos, education, occupation, income (optional), family and lifestyle details — to present your profile and compute matches.
  • Horoscope data — birth date, time, and place (optional) — to compute guna compatibility and, where requested, for review by panel astrologers.
  • Verification data — government-issued ID documents (optional, for the blue tick) — used solely for verification, stored encrypted and watermarked.
  • Payment data — transaction references from our payment gateway — to fulfil paid memberships; we never store full card numbers.
  • Usage data — device, log, and interaction data — to operate, secure, and improve the Platform.

2. Notice and consent

We process personal data only with your consent, given after this notice, or for certain legitimate uses permitted by the DPDP Act (such as responding to lawful directions). Consent is specific to the purposes listed above.

Fields we treat as sensitive in the matrimonial context — income, horoscope details, and ID documents — are optional, clearly marked, and have their own visibility controls.

You may withdraw consent at any time, as easily as you gave it: adjust profile fields and visibility in Settings, request erasure, or delete your account. Withdrawal does not affect processing already lawfully carried out.

3. How your data is shown to other members

Photos, contact details, and income each have independent visibility settings: visible to all members, visible only to connections you have accepted, or hidden. Contact details are never displayed automatically.

Birth details used for horoscope matching are visible to panel astrologers only within reviews or consultations you initiate, and are otherwise used only to compute scores.

4. Sharing and processors

We do not sell personal data, and we do not share personally identifiable data with advertisers.

We share data only with: service providers who operate the Platform under contract (hosting, SMS/WhatsApp and email delivery, payment processing); verification partners for ID checks; and vendors, astrologers, or counselors where you initiate a booking or enquiry. We disclose data to authorities only where required by law or lawful order.

Where data is processed outside India, we ensure the transfer complies with the DPDP Act and any restrictions notified by the Central Government.

5. Retention and deletion

We retain your personal data while your account is active and as needed for the purposes above. Chat messages are automatically deleted 90 days after they are sent.

When you delete your account, your profile, photos, and messages are permanently erased within 30 days, except records we must retain by law (for example, payment and tax records) and data required to enforce safety actions (such as records of banned accounts).

6. Your rights under the DPDP Act

As a data principal, you have the right to:

  • Access a summary of your personal data and how it is being processed.
  • Request correction, completion, or updating of inaccurate data.
  • Request erasure of your personal data.
  • Nominate another person to exercise these rights in the event of death or incapacity.
  • Raise a grievance and have it redressed, and escalate to the Data Protection Board of India if unresolved.

7. Grievance Officer and Data Protection contact

In accordance with the DPDP Act and the IT Rules, 2021:

  • Grievance Officer: grievance@nischaya.example — complaints acknowledged within 24 hours, resolved within 15 days.
  • Data protection enquiries: dpo@nischaya.example.
  • You may escalate unresolved grievances to the Data Protection Board of India under the DPDP Act.

8. Security and breach notification

We apply reasonable security safeguards: encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest, separately stored and access-restricted ID documents, and periodic security assessments.

In the event of a confirmed personal data breach, we will notify the Data Protection Board of India and affected users as required by the DPDP Act, with details of the nature of the breach, likely consequences, and mitigation measures.

No system is perfectly secure. Please use the privacy controls provided and the guidance in our Safety Center.

9. Children

The Platform is strictly for adults of legal marriageable age. We do not knowingly process data of anyone under 18. If you believe a minor's data is on the Platform, contact the Grievance Officer for immediate removal.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced on the Platform and by email at least 30 days before taking effect. The "Last updated" date reflects the latest revision.
